Andreana Assimopoulou is Professor of “Applied Organic Chemistry – Natural Products” at the School of Chemical Engineering, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh). She received her Diploma of Chemical Engineer from the School of Chemical Engineering, AUTh (grade 9.0/10.0, 1997), MSc in “Management of Productive Systems” from the Industrial Management Division, School of Mechanical Engineering, AUTh and PhD from the School of Chemical Engineering, AUTh (“Isohexenylnaphthazarins; Chemistry-Biology-Technology”, 2001). After a two year post Doctoral Fellowship granted by the States Scholarships Foundation, she was elected Lecturer of the School of Chemical Engineering, AUTh, Greece.

She is co-author of 85 scientific publications that have gained more than 5687 citations (h-factor 32). She has participated in many International Conferences and has received many invitations for submitting research articles, reviewing articles and presentations/seminars, while granted with several awards. She has developed a lot of collaborations with industries, R&D companies, institutes, individual researchers and universities.

Her research runs through the whole backbone of discovery and development of innovative drugs. Her main research interests focus on Chemistry and Technological Exploitation of Natural Products, Discovery of active ingredients from natural products, Technological Exploitation of bioactive constituents, Discovery of synergistic actions of bioactive molecules of natural origin, Stability testing of naturally occurring active ingredients, Standardization of natural extracts, Drug Delivery Systems, Instrumental Analysis, Technological utilization of natural products, Pharmaceutical Technology, as well as Industrial applications and Scale up from laboratory to manufacturing of pharmaceuticals.

She also coordinates the “Natural Products Research Centre of Excellence-AUTh”, at the Center of Interdisciplinary Research and Innovation, that the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki has established since 2015.

She has participated in several research proposals, both national and EU (ITN). She participates as a pole (AUTH) coordinator in the PlantUp [Upgrading the Plant Capital (Reinforcing the National Research Infrastructure for the sustainable exploitation of biodiversity towards high-added value natural products)] National Roadmap for Research Infrastructures, approved by the General Secretariat for Research and Technology (GSRT) of the Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs, since December 2014. Recently her group has been granted a MARIE SKŁODOWSKA-CURIE ACTIONS Innovative Training Network (ITN) H2020, entitled “MICROMETABOLITE” (EU proposal 721635).85
